cant update a song
on: May 1, 2013, 17:41

I have spent close to 2 hours trying update a song. I know I have done this previously but it just won't work now. When the iPad is connected to iTunes, the correct version is listed in the App area under NextPage, but the sets still show the old version, the one missing the last page! I am sure that previously I simply added the song again, was asked if I wanted to replace the old version, answered yes, and it was simply there--in every set. Today I have tried everything I can think of including deleting the song from all sets, deleting it in iTunes, powering down the iPad, powering up, reconnecting to iTunes, adding the latest version of the song to iTunes and then adding it to a Set. But alas, it is always the old version. What is the step-by-step process for updating a song?

Thanks!

Hi, let's see if we can get you going here! So if you are using iTunes Sync, your iPad is connected to iTunes, and the song you want to delete is listed in the Apps window for NextPage, the steps are:

1. Highlight the song you want to delete by clicking on it.
2. Press the DELETE key on your keyboard.
3. Confirm that you want to delete it.
4. Now in NextPage tap on the Songs button and tap the refresh button on the bottom toolbar. The song will be removed from the master song list. At this point it is also not going to show in your Set Lists any longer.
5. Now drag the updated version of your song into the App window in iTunes
6. In NextPage, click the refresh button again on the Song List toolbar. The new version will appear in the list again.
7. You will have to add the song back to your set lists.

Another way to do this is to:

1. In NextPage, tap on the Song List and find the song you want to delete.
2. Right swipe on the song to reveal the "DELETE" button and tap it.
3. Go through steps 5-7 above.

With multiple versions of a PDF with the same/similar name, it's very easy to lose track of what's what. I've had it happen to me too. More than once. It's probably worth double-checking to make sure the file you are adding back really has the last page in it.

I ended up having to change the name of the song to get the corrected version into NextPage. I was never able to overwrite the incorrect one. Perhaps it was corrupt. It helps to have been a programmer most of my life: there are usually many ways to accomplish the same thing!

Thanks for your help.

Did the song title by any chance have any nontypical characters in it? Colons, slashs, backslashes, etc. We've had reports of that causing issues in the past, and as a programmer, I'm sure you can appreciate why! It usually shows up when a non-english locale is being used.

No. In fact the only difference between the incorrect version and the correct version was the addition of page 4 to the pdf. Changing the name seemed to do the trick though. Later I changed it back to the original name, deleting the errant copy on my server.

Update: I was able to duplicate this behavior tonight by modifying an existing song, creating 4 pages where there used to be 3. There is no way I can get NextPage to recognize the updated song unless I change the name. Further, although the changed name works fine in the set, I can't change the song's name back to the original name without getting a copy of the obsolete PDF. It's being cached somewhere. . .
